The Cumbrian coastline will be a safer place after the crew of the Maryport Inshore Rescue Boat, near Whitehaven recently participated in essential sea survival training supported by local employer, VT Nuclear Services.
VT Nuclear Services, who have offices on the Sellafield reactor site and Westlakes Science Park, put employee and volunteer crew member, Gary Hampson, in touch with the training division of their parent company.
Fifteen volunteer crew members took part in the sea survival training aboard HMS Excellent in Portsmouth at the end of September. The course gave the crew essential knowledge and experience of personal survival principles and techniques.
Last week VT Nuclear Services Managing Director, John Chubb, and Human Resources Director, Nola Waller, visited the rescue boat crew to present them with their training certificate and learn more about the role the rescue boat plays in the local community.
Commenting on the support VT Nuclear Services gave to the rescue boat, Nola Waller said;
“I am pleased that VT has been able to support the outstanding work of the volunteer crew. It’s good to see the capabilities of VT Group coming together to support one of our employees for the benefit of a whole community”
VT Nuclear Services employee and crew member, Gary Hampson said "Being an independently funded organisation we rely on organisations like VT to help support the funding for training, so having been given this opportunity, the whole crew has benefited from such generosity. The survival training was very comprehensive and taught us key survival techniques which will benefit both the crew and the people we rescue."
